Privacy Policy

The short version: Readiant runs entirely on your device. It does not collect, store off your device, transmit, sell, or share any personal information, browsing history, or page content. There are no accounts, no tracking, and no third-party data sharing.

What Readiant is

Readiant is a Chrome extension that makes web articles easier to read. On sites you explicitly turn it on for, it restyles the page (text size, spacing, contrast, dyslexia-friendly fonts) and can read the article aloud using your operating system's built-in text-to-speech. All of this happens locally, in your browser.

What this policy covers. The Readiant browser extension for Chrome. Every statement below describes that extension and is scoped to it deliberately, so it stays exactly as true as the day it was written.

Data the extension collects

None that leaves your device. The Readiant browser extension does not send any data to us or to any third party — it has no servers and makes no network requests for its core features. Specifically:

Your preferences (reading settings, per-site on/off, theme) are saved only in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local). They are never synced or transmitted off your device by the extension.
A local usage counter records basic in-app events (e.g. that a setting was changed) on your device only, to help the app behave consistently. It contains no page text and no personally identifying information, it never leaves your browser, and you can clear it any time from the extension's Settings page.
Page content (the text of the articles you read) is processed in the page to restyle it and to read it aloud. The extension never transmits or stores it off your device.
The current tab's address is read only so Readiant can act on the site you turned it on for, and is not sent anywhere. The list of sites you've enabled is kept in your browser's local extension storage, and each site's saved preferences are keyed by a one-way hash of its origin.

Permissions, and why

activeTab / scripting — to apply the reading transforms and text-to-speech to the tab you're actively viewing, only after you turn Readiant on for it.
storage — to save your preferences locally on your device.
Per-site host access (https only) — requested one site at a time, on demand, when you choose “Turn on for this site.” Readiant never requests blanket access to all your sites, and you can revoke any site at any time.

Text-to-speech

Reading aloud uses the voices built into your operating system (via the browser's Web Speech API). No audio is recorded or uploaded, and no cloud voice service is used.

Third parties

The extension contains no analytics, no advertising, no trackers, and no third-party code or services. Nothing about your use of the extension is shared with anyone.

Your control and data retention

Your settings live on your device until you change or clear them.
You can turn Readiant off for any site from the popup or the Settings page.
You can clear the local usage counter any time from Settings.
Uninstalling the extension removes its locally stored data from your browser.

Children's privacy

The extension does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will change. Because the extension collects no data, any updates will be minor clarifications.
